Title: Humpty Dumpty
Character: Carol (with Doug)
Word Count: 173

Carol watches him sleep, sprawled out on his stomach next to her. His face is turned towards her and his hand is resting gently on her back, fingers burning into her skin as reminders of the past. She wonders if she’s made a mistake, letting him back into her bed again, her life. It’s one thing to know they’ve become closer, become friends, something they never truly were before, but it’s another thing to know that he’s here again, asking to be a part of her life as something more.

She’s not entirely sure she’s prepared for it. Her heart is tired of being broken. She is tired of picking up the pieces alone and trying to tape them together, because they never go back exactly the way they were before.

Her father, Doug, Tag, Shep.

She feels like Humpty Dumpty and she is tired of having to be put back together again. She only wants to be happy. And even now, she’s so afraid she never will be. Not even with him.
