Doug awoke to the sound of Carol crying loudly in her sleep.

"Noo.." She moaned.

"Carol?" Doug asked becoming more awake. He started to shake her shoulders a little bit.

"Carol? Carol wake up. Your having a nightmare." He said. She opened her eyes and when she saw him she pulled away from him and started shaking.

"Carol, what's wrong?" Doug asked. She didn't answer. "You just had a nightmare Carol. It's okay. I'm here." Doug said.

"Oh God. I'm sorry." Carol said.

"It's okay. Don't be sorry. You just had a bad dream." Doug said reassuring her, he went to put his arm around her but she pulled away.

"I...can't." Carol said.

"Ummm...okay." Doug said not really understanding.

"It's just," Carol started, but Doug cut her off.

"No, don't worry about it." Doug said and laid down.

"Doug, wait." Carol whispered. He sat up.

"What is it?" Doug asked.

"My nightmare. It...it was about you." Carol said.

"I...Carol.." Doug started, not sure what to say.

"That's why, I woke up scared when I saw you. And I'm still a little shaken up about it." Carol said.

"Mmmkay. Well would you tell me what happened in the dream? Then maybe I can help." Doug said.

"Doug..I dunno.." Carol said.

"Oh...okay. That's fine." Doug said.

"No. Wait. Okay..I..promise you won't get mad?" Carol asked.

"I promise. It was just a dream." Doug said.

"The dream started out good, you and me were in here," she said gesturing towards the bed, "we were..um...well you know...and then this really pretty blonde came in and when you saw her you jumped up off the bed and went to her. You started to kiss her and ended up making love to her on the floor in front of me...Then...," she choked on her words, "when you heard me crying, you came up to the bed and.......slapped my face and told me to shutup." Carol said, crying as she wrapped her arms around her body.

"I'm not mad. And Carol, I would NEVER, ever hit you. You know that. And I would not have been making love to that woman. I've only made love to one person my whole life and that is you. And no matter how pretty this woman was, you are the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on and the most beautiful I will ever lay my eyes on. I can assure you that." Doug said taking her face into his hands and wiping away her tears.

"I'm sorry, Doug." Carol said and she leaned into his shoulder and cried. He rubbed her back.

"Hey hey now. I said everything's okay. It was just a dream. I am not planning on leaving anytime, Carol." Doug assured her. She leaned her face up and kissed him quickly.

"Can we go back to bed now?" Carol asks looking to see it's only 3 a.m.

"Sure Carol." Doug said and laid down, she turned her back to him leaning against his chest as she snuggled up against him and he smiled, happy she let him hold her. He wasn't tired now and he could tell she wasn't going to fall asleep anytime soon, so he stayed awake with her even though she wasn't aware of it. About 20 minutes later, she could hear his even breathing and she thought he was asleep. She started to cry softly. It took him a few seconds to realize she was crying and he tightened his grip around her waist.

"Carol?" Doug whispered so softly he barely heard himself. She tensed up in his arms. "Relax hunny. What's wrong?" Doug asked.

"I'm sorry. I can't go back to sleep." Carol said.

"Hey it's okay. C'mere." Doug said and she turned around in his arms and he held her tight to his chest and rubbed her back. "Go ahead and cry, it's okay. I'm here." Doug said. But she didn't cry. She hugged him tightly.

"I love you." She whispered very softly. He couldn't believe his ears.

"What did you say?" Doug asked.

"Um..nothing." Carol said.

"Oh okay. Want to talk?" Doug asked. She shook her head.

"Just hold me please." Carol said.

"I won't let go." Doug said and he held tightly to her and waited until she fell asleep. His mind wandered, he was so happy that she had said those words and he knew she was scared, so he wasn't even upset when she wouldn't say it again. He smiled and fell asleep happily.

The next morning he woke up and Carol wasn't beside him. He looked up, puzzled until he heard her taking a shower. He smiled and snuggled back under the comforter to wait for her. She came out towel-drying her hair a few minutes later. She smiled at him and he smiled back at her.

"Morning sweetie." Doug said.

"Good morning Doug." Carol said and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"You smell good." Doug said and he smiled as he reached out and rubbed Carol's arm affectionately.

"Doug, I'm sorry about last night." Carol said. Doug smiled.

"Hey, it's no problem." Doug said. Carol kissed him quickly then went to go get ready as he followed her to take his shower.

Doug walks into the house and looks for Carol. She is sitting on the couch with a blanket pulled up around her and a book in her hand. She puts it down when she hears him come in.

"Hey baby." Carol says.

"Hi." Doug says. He crawls on top of her and puts his hands up her shirt, laying his cold hands on her stomach.

"Doug! Get your hands off of me!" Carol squeals and he laughs. She pulls the cover around her tightly. "Your freezing."

"I know. It's pretty cold out there." Doug says. Carol opens up her blanket.

"Come on. Get in here. Just don't touch me with your cold hands." Carol warns. He chuckles and pulls the covers around them and he snuggles against her chest. He stays there for a few minutes before he lifts his head up.

"Carol?" he says.

"Hmm?" She said staring into his eyes. He takes a deep breath.

"I love you too." Doug says. Her mouth falls open and he chuckles. "I heard what you said last night Carol and I just wanted you to know that I feel the same way." Doug says. Carol smiles. She leans over and kisses him.

"I love you Doug. I always have." Carol said and he smiles and kisses her again, pushing her back onto the couch and kissing her softly.
